The Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary

In some ways, devotion to the Immaculate Heart
prepared the way for devotion to the Sacred Heart,
just as Mary prepares the way for Jesus.

Until the middle of the 17th century, devotion to the
Immaculate Heart of Mary was unknown,
except to a few privileged souls.
In 1641, St. John Eudes began preaching devotion
to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary.
In 1638, he published his
Devotion to the Most Pure Heart and Holy Name of Mary.
The feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary was first celebrated
in 1648.
About 30 years later, Our Lord appeared
to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque and asked for devotion to His Sacred Heart.

The Litany of Loretto
Lord, have mercy on us. Christ have mercy on us.
Lord, have mercy on us. Christ, hear us.
Christ graciously hear us.
God, the Father of heaven, have mercy on us.
God the Son, Redeemer of the world, have mercy on us.
God the Holy Ghost, have mercy on us.
Holy Trinity, one God, have mercy on us.
Holy Mary, pray for us.
Holy Mother of God, pray for us.
Holy Virgin of virgins, pray for us.
Mother of Christ, pray for us.
Mother of divine grace, pray for us.
